Is this different from the mortgage insurance my lender charges?
Yes. Lender mortgage insurance (PMI) protects the lender. Mortgage protection life insurance pays your beneficiaries, and they decide how to use it.
Does the benefit go to my bank?
No. It goes to the people you name. They can pay the mortgage or use it for other needs.
Do I have to cover the full loan amount?
No. You choose the amount and term that fit your budget. Many people match their balance; some cover less or more.
Do I need a medical exam?
Not always. Some policies only ask health questions. It depends on the insurance company, your age, your health and the amount.
